Ireland’s media watchdog, Coimisiún na Meán, is working with the European Commission to investigate concerns that Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok is generating sexually explicit images, including of minors.
The xAI-powered tool, integrated into X, allegedly responded to prompts asking it to remove clothing from images of women and children. Regulators say such content is illegal under EU law.
UK watchdog Ofcom has also contacted X and xAI, warning that protecting minors online remains a top priority. EU officials condemned Grok’s “spicy mode,” calling the content “illegal and appalling.”
Grok acknowledged flaws in its safeguards and said fixes are underway. Elon Musk has publicly dismissed criticism online, while regulators consider potential enforcement actions under the Digital Services Act.
